Updating or approving users through the API

I'm exploring the use of Ning Pro for an important group of 10000+ users. I'm a bit dissapointed by the lack of functions in the current API. I wanted to automate the approval of users remotely using our official member database.

 

The retrieval of pending users seems possible through the "Users/recent" endpoint , but there is no way to approve them programmatically. The only function available is to update the status message, which is of no use for us.

 

Is there a richer version of the API coming along or should be look at another solution than Ning?
