Now that the Ning API has been out for a week, what do you think of it? What's good about it? What needs to be improved?

Logical things to ask before investing a second into the current reincarnation of the API:

1) Can we do something fun with it? Namely, single sign-on integration with PhpBB or Wordpress?

2) Can we trust that this will even be around in a few months from now? Because as it happens, we have been stripped of our API investments in the past.

1) The Ning API is focused on the content of your Ning Network. The initial release does not cover single sign on. You can read the Ning API introduction to see what you can and cannot do. The initial release lets you create, read, update, and delete content on your Ning Network. Mobile application developers are among the first to take advantage of the API.

2) Yes, you can trust that the Ning API will be around for a long time. The executive team at Ning understands that the Ning API is important and created a dedicated team in engineering to build it (they are called the Developer Experience team). All of this is a direct result of our recent changes.

I like it!

My iPhone apps now search for pictures on my Ning site and serve those up in app. Awesome!

Sincerely, Devin it's really great. In a few days I'll be able to offer members of my network services hosted on a Drupal website, without asking them to create a new account... Fantastic. I waited for almost a year...

Of course there are some little bugs (like monitoring apis usage) and those that have not yet seen ;-) But for now, what I used works great.

Good luck with that, as Devin said above, "the initial release does not cover single sign on", which seems to be what you are doing with Drupal. Although it would be a fantastic extension if you succeed with it.

For a first try, it is an authentication delegation (and yes, it's functionning), but my goals are SSO... :-D
